An earlier version of these tables was used in a Solo RPG Actual Play using the Warlock! RPG,

Sorcerer of Flamecap Spire is a dungeon, full of guardians, NPCs and hazards. At the end of it is the Sorcerer, who guards a great treasure. Keys to the treasure lie in the dungeon complex.

Based on an old British gamebook, it is system-neutral, using recognisable fantasy creatures. There is no included map. No assumptions are made about number of rooms, encounters or their placement.

The adventure is presented in random tables, grouped by sections of the adventure. There are four themes with entries spread across the tables.

Use the tables to build a dungeon ahead of time, in solo play with an adventure framework, improvise a more spontaneous game, or use the tables to supplement another game or adventure.

Themes of Arcane, Dwarves, Fire and Sacred

There are four themes included in the adventure. Each table in the adventure has entries using the themes.

  • Arcane [ARC]. Magic suffuses the complex, and several creatures are spellcasters. There are many enchantments, magical wards and items.
  • Dwarves [DWA]. Dwarves built the dungeon, with items and chambers made by them. In the dungeon, dwarves exist as foes or servants of the Sorcerer.
  • Fire [FIR]. The magic of the mountain is tied to fire. Monsters and items use fire or fire magic and rooms will often have some kind of fire.
  • Sacred [SAC]. The complex is holy to a deity, or cursed by one. Expect altars and shrines, healing relics, religious icons, blessed weapons and priests.

Pick one or two themes to give the adventure a particular feel. Use the entries of tables marked with [FIR] to meet fire-based creatures and discover fire-based locations.

The themes are optional and can just be ignored

Using the Tables

The random tables help create a flexible adventure, that can also be replayed with as different adventure.

When using a table, roll for a result, or pick one that you like. Remember that this is your adventure, so if there's a result you don't like, choose another one.

Many tables have alternative options in italics, to be used if the first result doesn't work, or you prefer the second.
