There's lots out there for gamebooks, so here's a collection of some resources!
Gamebook Lists
The website Gamebooks Guide has Which Gamebook to Choose - For Beginners and also Which Gamebook to Choose - For Veterans.
Damien's Gamebook Webpage has a list of many gamebooks, with some recent ones (I found book 5 of VulcanVerse from 2024 on there). There's an option to filter by Category.
Writing Gamebooks
- How to Write a Gamebook, a miniseries (about 2 hours) on YouTube by the creator of DestinyQuest
- Twine is open source software for writing "Interactive Non-linear Stories" (such as gamebooks
- Writing Solo Adventures, a guide by Joe Dever (of Lone Wolf) from 1990.
- A Reading List for Writing a Gamebook from Lloyd of Gamebooks, a blog about writing gamebooks
Gamebook Communities
There's a few discords, there's the r/gamebooks subreddit and a few facebook groups on Fighting Fantasy and gamebooks.
Then Fighting Fantasy has Fighting Fantasy Fests in London every 1-2 years. I went to Fighting Fantasy Fest 5 in 2024 and will try to make the next one.
Other Resources
- Project Aeon is 25 Lone Wolf gamebooks for free (with permission from the Author). There are also translations in Spanish and Italian.
- Rand Roll articles on Gamebooks, including interviews, lists and musings.
Finishing Up
I'll periodically update this list with more gamebook resources.
