More random tables as I introduce Lady Tiefling, creator of D&D loot tables

Q&A with Lady Tiefling, Creator of Loot Tables

How did you get into creating random tables?

I started to make the random enemy loot tables when I started getting bored of just handing out random gold amounts when my party asked to loot bodies. I thought it would be a fun way for me to do more research into the enemies they were fighting, and find items that would realistically be found on them.

I found that it was really useful in my own game, and wanted to share with others in hopes it helped bring some flavor to their games as well!

What tables are you most proud of creating and why?

I’m most proud of the four hag tables I made. It was so much fun making common/slightly magical items, and coming up with loot that could have a deeper meaning in-game.

What is the most fun thing about creating random tables?

I really enjoy putting items on the table that can result in fun results in-game. I enjoy thinking about all the scenarios that an item could cause.

And my favorite thing is when people who use my tables reach out to me and tell me the stories of what the random loot tables have caused in their games. It is really heartwarming to know that my tables are being used to help so many DMs provide fun experiences for their party.

What are the most painful lessons you've learnt from creating random tables?

I have a hard time with time-management and burnout.

I’ll get really motivated to make random tables, and I’ll work non-stop to post daily. And then the next week I’ll feel so lethargic and overwhelmed with feeling like I’m letting people down if I don’t post constantly.

I’m working on trying to get in a healthier head space, but it is a difficult process.

I suppose what I’ve learned is that I need to take some time to myself sometimes, but that I can’t take too much time for myself. I’ve been struggling with finding the balance, and I hope that with small steps I’ll get there soon.

How do you use random tables yourself?

I normally have an idea of what enemies they will run into during a game, and I have those tables prepared. Whoever asks to loot a body, or wants to see what they find, I’ll let them roll a d12 and give them the item.

What are your next big projects (random tables or otherwise) that you can talk about?

I have way too many ideas and I sometimes need to be wrangled back in.

Some future goals I’d love to accomplish are: more location loot tables, expanding into d100 tables, and live-streaming on Twitch.

Where can people find you on social media?

I go by LadyTiefling across all my accounts. I post most often on my Instagram, but I also post four tables at a time on Twitter! [And there is a Patreon].

Is there anything else you would like to talk about?

I would just like to say thank you so much to all the people who have supported me.

I feel overwhelmed sometimes, but everyone in the D&D community is so kind and understanding. I sometimes feel silly worrying as much as I do, since I know that most people in the community are extremely compassionate. I’m really excited for what the future holds for me, and I want to keep working hard to make content that people will find helpful.
